Social media and books

Since most books are now available in digital format, making them accessible—ensuring that readers can discover and buy them easily—is an essential part of the process.

Ensuring that readers can discover the titles they’re interested in means, of course, that they have to be highly visible in places where people buy their ebooks: on-line bookstores, Kobo, the iBookstore, Amazon, etc. It’s the key underlying premise: Someone who’s looking for a book must be able to find it easily.

But that’s only the start.

Word-of-mouth—i.e., recommendations and suggestions—is indispensable in the book world. What we read is, in large part, suggested by friends or critics whose judgment we trust and whose tastes are, in general terms, similar to ours. For ebooks, this means being able to rely on social media.

With this goal in mind, we have entered into a partnership with Tumbz, a startup based in Quebec City that is currently rolling out a social network that’s all about music, videos… and books.
